The unexpected commitment of cash capped nearly two years of struggle. Since leaving Microsoft in early 2001 to found his own company, Nosa Omoigui had burned through his Microsoft stock options, maxed out numerous credit cards, and faced foreclosure on his home — all to keep his startup alive.
His handful of employees had been working without pay, out of their homes, for months. They met once a week at Jitters, a Bellevue coffee house. Omoigui had given himself to the end of 2002 to secure outside money, or close up shop.
